Cisco Improves Telepresence

Marking the one-year anniversary of Cisco TelePresence, the breakthrough technology for virtual, “in-person” communications, Cisco today announced that it is delivering intercompany capabilities for Cisco TelePresence and has successfully demonstrated the solution with BT through a secure connection across the BT Global Services network. This groundbreaking technological advancement will provide businesses with the flexibility and security to have “in person” meetings with customers, partners and suppliers with the ease of a simple phone call.

Cisco has worked closely with key service providers, such as BT, throughout the development of the intercompany Cisco TelePresence architecture. Cisco TelePresence integrates advanced audio, ultra-high-definition video and interactive collaboration tools with the underlying network as the platform to deliver an immersive meeting experience. BT’s existing Unifed Communication Video Collaboration solution is based on the Cisco TelePresence solution.

Francois Barrault, CEO of BT Global Services said: “Cisco TelePresence has the potential to transform businesses by bridging the geographic gap within organizations and to bring customers and partners together in an extended ecosystem of communication. The intensely immersive experience allowed by this tool will also encourage businesses to reduce the carbon footprint currently generated by travelling to essential face to face meetings across the world. Delivering on this promise requires a global network infrastructure which provides the security, scalability and reliability this new level of convergence and collaboration demands.”
